MARCO SOCÍAS

Joaquín Rodrigo commented this way the recording of the CD "Elogio de la guitarra", integrated by his works for alone guitar that Marco Socías carried out in 1997:

Born in Málaga in a family of pianists, Marco Socías received his musical education in his native city, and later on in numerous courses of improvement and in the Musikhochschule of Colony (Germany). Among the professors that meant more for his formation we find Carmen Gallardo, Antonio Company, José Tomás, José Miguel Moreno, and David Russell.

At the 21 years-old he got a guitar chair, job for which at the moment has taken an extended leave of absence, becoming this way the youngest (cátedra) professor in Spain.

He has been rewarded in several of the most noted international competitions of guitar, as the "Infanta Cristina" (Fundación Guerrero, Madrid) in which obtained the First Prize, "Le Printemps de la Guitare" (Belgium) and the International Competition of Gargnano (Italy).

He is regularly invited to the most renowned International Festivals of Guitar and, apart from his intense activity like soloist for almost all Europe, Next East and USA, very frequently acts in camera groups and as soloist in the orchestra. He has acted in such important stages as the Concertgebouw of Amsterdam, the National Auditory (Madrid), Konzerthaus (Vienna), Konzerthaus (Berlin) and Alte Oper (Frankfurt), and he has been a soloist in orchestras as the Radio Sinfonie-Orchester of Berlin, Orchestra City of Granada, Symphonic Orchestra of Galicia, Orchestra Regionale del Lazio (Italy), and the National Orchestra from Cuba. Among the directors he has acted, we mention Josep Pons, Victor Pablo Pérez, Odón Alonso and Leo Brouwer.

Until the moment he has recorded eight CDs, mainly of Spanish music, of which the most recent are the one carried out by Harmonia Mundi records, in which is included "Concierto de Aranjuez" and "Fantasía para un Gentilhombre" with the Orchestra Ciudad de Granada directed also by Josep Pons, and a recital with music of Maestro Rodrigo, for EMI records.

The Italian composer Carlo Domeniconi has written and dedicated him the pieces "Incontro", "Sonata, quasi una sinfonía", and his Concert for guitar and orchestra n.13.

At the moment Marco Socías resides in Berlin, and he is professor of the recently created Centro Superior de Música del País Vasco.
