CARLES TREPAT
Carles Trepat was born in Lleida in 1960 here he commenced to study music with Jordi Montagut. In 1976 he attended to the last guitar course that Emilio Pujol directed in Cervera. After that he widened his studies with Eduardo Sáinz de la Maza in Barcelona, in Alicante?s Higher Music School "Oscar Esplà" with José Tomás and in the École Normale de Musique in Paris with Alberto Ponce.
He started to perform when he was 17 and a year later he played in the "Teatro Real" in Madrid after having won the "Concurso Permanente de Juventudes Musicales de España". Among the numerous prizes he has won we can highlight Tárrega?s Prize in the International Contest Francisco Tárrega in Benicassim, the Special Prize of the Jury in the International contest in la Habana and the First prize in the V International Contest in Toronto.
Having started to teach at a young age, Carles Trepat was a professor at Vila-secas,s Professional Music school for 5 years and he is invited regularly to teach technique improvement in: Zaragoza, A Coruña, Gijón, Badajoz, Ikasmúsica in Bilbao, Alkmaar (Holland), Volos, Salónica (Greece). He has had the privilege of collaborating with José Tomás as a teacher assistant, in Vila-seca and Denia?s courses for over 10 years.
Carles Trepat has played plenty of concerts and recitals in Spain, France, Russia, Austria, England, Chile, Australia, Canada being of special importance his performances at the Wigmore Hall and London?s Queen Elisabeth Hall, Palau de la Música Catalana de Barcelona, Philarmonika de Varsovia, Teatro de la Maestranza in Sevilla, Sala Glinka de San Petersburg and at the Music school Tchaikovski in Moscow.
He has also joined "Musica y Danza" Festival in Sevilla, Shell Darwin Guitar Festival, Festival of Radio France-Montpellier, Temporada Ibercámera in Barcelona, Festival of Cadaqués...
He has played with the London Festival Orchestra, Orquestra Simfònica de Barcelona i Nacional de Catalunya, English Chamber Orquestra, Orchestra of St. John's Smith Square, and the Orquesta Ciudad de Granada as a soloist, with conductors such as Josep Pons, Leopold Hager, Enrique García Asensio and Friedemann Layer.
Interested as well in popular music, Carles Trepat has collaborated with various music genres artisits and this term he will join the "Astor Piazzolla Tribute" from the hand of "Tomatito" presented on the last "Bienal de Flamenco" in Sevilla.
He has also played for the first time exclusively young composers pieces like Salvador Brotons and Albert Llanas, who have dedicated to him some of their compositions. He has published original pieces and transcriptions for guitar. His piece "Homenaje a Baden Powell" (Tribute to Baden powell) was awarded by the Carrefour Mondiale de la Guitare in Martinique 1994.
Most recently he has recorded 2 CDs dedicated to the music of Manuel Quiroga and Federico Mompou, and the "Romancero Gitano" of M. Castelnuovo-Tedesco about F. García Lorca?s poems with the "Coro de Cámara del Palau de la Música" Music Hall,s Chamber Chorus) in Barcelona.
